There will probably be no way to ever prove this, but I think that lone gunman who bush-wacked the two innocent, unsuspecting police officers put himself to death thinking he was some sort of a hero for the movement declaring, “What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want it? Right now.”. I think that gunman felt himself empowered to take the lives of those officers, and for this reason think each and every person proclaiming so proudly they want dead cops is just as guilty of the murder of those officers as had they pulled the trigger on the weapon used themselves.
Look at this from another standpoint, too. Inasmuch as the African-American community is accusing law enforcement of unfairly targeting and killing supposedly unarmed, innocent Black males, these same people are unfairly targeting and now killing unsuspecting, innocent police officers. They are committing acts, or causing others to commit acts, of violence toward police officers in exactly the same manner as they accuse law enforcement of acting against them. It’s the pot calling the kettle black, and the consequences will be a detriment to the unity of our nation for years to come.
Oh, and by the way, I have a special message for these people who call for the killing of police officers: “Take your demonstrations, your chants, your demands and everything else you think you deserve, and stick them right the fucking hell up your condescending asses right alongside your fucking heads!

I’m not sure that’s a valid comparison. First off, I don’t think police officers across the nation are deliberately ‘targeting’ black men and killing them. However, the data demonstrate that police are less reluctant to open fire on a black male suspect than a white male suspect. There are some black folks who are deliberately targeting police — but it’s pretty rare.
The raw data over the last year aren’t entirely reliable (we won’t have official 2014 data for another 6 months or more), but a conservative count shows that at least 136 unarmed black men were shot and killed by police this year. That’s around 2.5 killings per week. And again, that’s a conservative estimate. The actual number is certain to be higher. One reason for the lack of reliable data is because there’s no national repository that tracks civilian deaths at the hands of law enforcement officers.
On the other hand, we have accurate data about police deaths from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. They report 50 law enforcement officers were killed by gunfire this year. Of those, 15 were killed by ambush — deliberately targeted, in other words. That’s ‘law enforcement’ officers, not uniformed municipal police. Several of those 15 targeted killings were committed by anti-government white ‘militia’ groups ambushing federal LE agents or local municipal police.
The fact is, the odds of a young unarmed black male being killed by police are much greater than the odds of a uniformed police officer being targeted and killed by a black male civilian.
