You have the eye, that’s for sure. I look at it and think, well, maybe if you cropped it down more horizontal, but then, no, you’d lose that great vertical shadow of the lamp, and the strong verticals really balance that horizontal layout, and I like the horizontal of the third story up there too. And then I thought, well, it would have been great to catch the dog jumping up, too. But this has a sort of anticipation to it, with the dog’s barely seen movement leading to something. The hat and that door- brilliant. And the echo in the no parking sign… All brilliant. And damn but you’re right that the red gets a bit lost. Though I kind of like the added layers of things to see that add to the overall composition and story- you may not notice them at first, but if you keep looking you notice. Delayed gratification or something. ;)
Beckett, you know me…I’m more interested in the process than in the result (at least when it comes to shooting for myself). This was like a weird gamble that didn’t quite pay off. Still, I enjoyed the gamble, even if it didn’t turn out the way I’d expected.
